How to Make Slime Without Glue

To keep the kids active and engaged, making homemade slime is the best way to go about it. Not only is making homemade slime super fun, but it can also be a great educational experience for your children. You can use slime to teach them about different planets and galaxies.  Extremely easy to make, the slime will save you some bucks as well.

Be it at your child’s next birthday party or a family get together, making homemade slime is an amazing way to keep the little ones entertained and busy. There are different ways in which you can use homemade slime, including giving it away in cute bags, making ready-made slime pots or making DIY kits for gifting to others.

With making slimes, you can go wild with the color combinations.  From using plain colors to create pastel or vivid tones or make beautiful unicorn and rainbow effects, you have unlimited choices at hand.  If you want to create a sparkling effect, just go ahead and add some glitter into the slime. Slime can be harmful when ingested. Therefore, keep your kids from eating it accidentally.

In this article, we will explore making slime without the use of glue. This recipe requires the use of shampoo, water, and cornstarch. Although the consistency of the slim tends to be thin, however, it’s much easier to clean afterward as there is no glue involved. Furthermore, you can add it to your or the kid’s bathtubs and enjoy a relaxing bubble bath.

Recipe For Making Slime Without Glue

Ingredients

  • Half a cup of a thick gel shampoo, such as Johnson’s 3-in-1 kid’s shampoo.
  • Two to three drops of a food coloring (Optional)
  • Two and a half cup of cornstarch
  • A quarter cup of cool water

Types of Equipment Needed

  • A medium mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula(Preferably rubber)
  • Airtight container with a tight lid
  • A liquid measuring cup

Directions

  1. Pour the half cup of shampoo into the mixing bowl.
  2. Add two to three drops of food color to the bowl and mix thoroughly. This step is entirely optional. However, if you want your slime to be pretty and colorful, this is highly recommended.
  3. Gradually add the cornstarch to the mix and stir well to combine. You should end up with a thick paste that is crumbly but not homogeneous.
  4. Slowly add in water to the mixture. Start with adding two tablespoons of water until the mixture changes from a thick and crumbly paste to smooth, and eventually slimy. You might not require all the water for achieving the final slime consistency.
  5. Knead the slime well until it has no large particles and is smooth. Keep stretching and kneading the slime until it is silky and smooth.

Recipe Notes

Store the final product in an airtight container with a tight lid. It should stay well for one week at room temperature.

Benefits of Making Slime Without Glue

One of the most common methods, making slime without glue is very easy and cost-efficient. The slime mixture will not stick to your hands or utensils. Plus, it will easily come off when washed. You will not have to risk your towels or clothes from getting completely ruined. Furthermore, you only need a few ingredients to work with. All these ingredients will be readily available in your kitchen cabinets. This method also doesn’t require the use of borax. Using borax to make slime has long been implicated in causing second and third-degree burns.

Tips and Tricks For Making Slime Without Glue

  • If you want your slime to be thicker and fluffier, use a shampoo with a thicker consistency. You can use those cheap shampoos that you may have taken from a hotel room. Three-in-one shampoos that work as a body wash, conditioner and shampoo will be perfect for this.
  • If you want your slime to retain the color you want, try adding a few drops of the food color to the shampoo first. This will make the coloring a lot easier than adding it afterward.
  • Add water slowly to the mixture. Do not add all the water at first. The shampoo itself is high in water content. If you add in too much water, you will end up with a thin, watery mess. After you mix the cornstarch with the shampoo, slowly add the water two tablespoons at a time until you end up with a smooth slimy consistency.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I make my slime fluffier and softer?

If you want to make the slime fluffier, try adding a little white shaving cream after you add the food coloring to the mixture.

  • How to make a larger amount of slime?

If you want to increase the quantity of your slime, just double or triple the ingredients used in the recipe above.
